Joey (“Joy”) Relocated and Very Well – Mar. 7, 2013

Another note from Cindy King regarding one of her recent fosters:

I got this message this morning. Joey (Joy) was the dog Jeanne McPherson found on Lybrand Road and was so upset about her.  I picked her up and fostered her.  When Kelly and Freddy first adopted Joey, they lived in New York CIty. They have so loved this little abandoned girl.  Although our contract states not to re-home a dog yourself, how could I be upset with the life they have chosen for Joey.  Wanted to share – enjoy.

Good Morning Cindy!

Joey enjoying a sunny spot!

Joey enjoying a sunny spot!

I hope this email finds you well – I so enjoy following your posts on Facebook and seeing all of the wonderful work you are facilitating in finding wonderful homes for all of those lost little pups out there.

I wanted to update you on our Joey – it is with mixed emotions that she has actually relocated to live with our family best friends in Austin, TX.  It was an extremely difficult decision for us but ultimately driven by the fact that our 22 month old son has chronic kidney disease and will be having a kidney transplant in May.  As a result, having a germ free and clean home is crucial and Joey’s constant in and out along with pretty excessive shedding makes that a very difficult task.  Additionally, Rory will be having surgery at a hospital in Philadelphia which will necessitate us to be away for 2-3 weeks.  In all of the emotional back and forth with Rory’s diagnosis and making future plans (plus baby #2 on the way in 2 weeks!) we wanted to do what was most fair to Joey.

Joey-3Backtracking a bit, The Stones, came to visit us this summer and fell in love with her.  At the time we did not yet know about Rory and had no intention of ever needing help with Joey and despite that they said, “If ever you cannot keep her, please send her to us, we’d love to have her.”  At the time, they had 2 dogs, a 3 year old rescue shepherd mix and a much older dog they subsequently had to put to sleep in November.

Come January, when we really needed to sort out our situation, we reached out to them to see if Maggie (their rescue) was looking for a new buddy and they jumped at the opportunity to take Joey in.  It was not an easy decision by any means, in adopting Joey having not met her we could not have asked for a more fantastic friend – but what that also meant for us was that she deserved the absolute best which we just did not feel we were able to give her under the circumstances.

Joey with her new buddy!

Joey with her new buddy!

She now lives in a crate free home, sleeps on the couch at night, has a buddy to play with, lie around with and chase around the yard in consistently warm beautiful weather, and Jim works from home, so they are seldom without a human companion.  She flew United / Continental which I highly recommend.  Their PetSafe program was fantastic, incredibly reasonable and their employees extremely compssionate.  In just one afternoon she had relocated and in just a few days she has acclimated quite well.  After observing her in the backyard Jim texted joking that Joey’s mom must have been a greyhound and her father likely a gazelle 🙂

I have attached a few pictures, and among the Stone’s 3 adult kids (picture of Joey w/ daughter Katie attached) there are two Pyranese Mountain dogs and I believe another puppy joining the family shortly.  She will have no shortage of companionship and love.  My dad and Jim are best friends and in touch every day – my dad, who had grown quite attached to Joey, will surely visit a few times a year.  Freddy also makes his way to Austin a few times a year for business and will be sure to stop and see her as well.

We feel so very fortunate that in all of the tumult of the last 6 months we were presented with such an great opportunity to give Joey what we felt we were lacking due to Rory’s condition and future needs.  I will continue to send updates from Jim (he is an amazing photographer and I’m sure will have some great pics to come).  Please feel free to reach out to me for updates as well!

Thanks Cindy,

Kelly

Izzy (formerly Patches) In Her New Home – Mar. 7, 2013

This note was sent to Cindy King, who writes:

“Izzy was “Patches” when I fostered her, one of 3 puppies that my neighbor and her family found wandering in the woods by themselves.  She certainly has a great life now – just warms my heart for this little girl. The last picture is when she was a puppy.”

Hi Cindy!

Izzy – Mar. 7, 2013

We were just thinking of you this past weekend! We’re all doing great and looking very forward to spring 🙂 We hope all is well with you, your husband, and all of the foster puppies!

Alex and I are still as in love with izzy as the day we got her! She’s such a Lovebug, always wanting to be with us and snuggle. She still comes to work with me everyday.  In fact, there were a couple days that she spent at home with Alex, and my patients called a meeting with me to discuss her whereabouts ha ha! They really look forward to playing fetch in the hallways with her and having her jump up into their wheelchairs when they pass my office. It’s very sweet.

Izzy loves the dog park!

Izzy loves the dog park!

Izzy was introduced to the dog park in the past few months. I swear if she had business cards she would be handing them out.  Not so into the dogs at the park, but she makes her way to every human and promptly rolls over for a belly rub.  She’s one of a kind!

I’ve attached a few pics for you so you can see how Izzy’s grown… : )

Henry is loving life in his new home – Nothing better than having boys to grow up with!

It’s hard to believe that Henry was once named “Poorly,” because he was the runt of the litter of beautiful boxer/lab puppies. Look at him now! This beautiful puppy has years of love and fun ahead of him. We are so happy for Henry.

What a stunning puppy this is.

We don't think Henry will be small enough to hold for very long. He's going to be a big, beautiful boy.

If you need a couch buddy, Quincy might be the dog for you.

Nekoda – Happy and Healthy In His New Home

(We received the following from Nekoda’s new family.  He was formerly called “Nomad” and is the beautiful husky that was hairless and starved at rescue.)

Nekoda (Formerly "Nomad") happy in the snow with his new family.

Nekoda (Formerly “Nomad”) happy in the snow with his new family.

Nekoda is delighted with each fresh snow fall.  I took him out early the morning before there was a foot print in the snow. What a happy dog! Wind and blowing snow delight him, not so much me. Noah took Nekoda out before Sunday School. Nekoda was thrilled! Then Stephanie took him out because she can run with him which she knows Nekoda really likes. Nokoda played in the yard while the morning shoveling was done. The moment we walked in from church Nekoda was anxious to get outside again.  After the children take him on a nice walk, he’ll play in the yard while we shovel once more.  Nekoda thinks this is a perfect day.

He is so cute in the snow. Prancing around, digging for buried treasure (he finds all sorts of stuff in the deep snow – last week he found an apple, a mostly eaten candy, and a sandwich wrapper people must have dropped rushing home in the blizzard) and playing in the snow banks.

He is a delightful dog. It’s fun to watch him play. He will sit and give his paw at voice and hand command. We are working on “stay” and “down.” He is great with all the kids! he is dearly loved; a true joy and answer to prayers. We extend our thanks for all you have done.
